Ochuwa and Doye | Telling wedding stories in Nigeria Part #1

I’ve been away from this blog for too long now. When I started this project my intention was to post something at least once every week. So far I have fallen short of it by quite a number of weeks. This is partly to do with the fact that I was abroad for the most of 4 weeks (I only just returned a week today) and also because I haven’t had as much material to share.

I normally take the Christmas period off work to spend time with my family in Nigeria, something I have always done since my school days. This year I decided to try my hands at documenting weddings during this season (as there are many wedding happening around this time). I took on about 5 different events in total hoping to lend from the experience I had already built up over the year. Much to my surprise these events are not the same as the ones I covered during the less festive seasons of the year. They seemed to have everything, both good and bad.

Over the next 4 posts I’m going to share some of the footage from these events. One thing I’m happy with is my confidence in shooting full frame with a 50mm focal length, 80% of the photos taken were with this focal length. I also want to show images of a storytelling nature.

Tunde Owolabi assisted me in this one and he did such an amazing and Professional job.

Equipment : EOS Canon 5D, EOS Canon 1D Mk III, Canon EF  50mm f/1.8 II, Canon EF  70-200mm f/2.8L and Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L

Head-tying is a true art, this one took almost half an hour to do

The intrusion by the papz was quite mild here

Sometimes the photographer gets sprayed

“pssst….psssst….psssst!”

Yeah same to you too!

I always do a cameo in my events somewhere

I already told you this, but let me make it public. I am totally in love with these photos.

The smiles, the openness, and the overwhelming feeling of joy and happiness that flows from them.

Well done on capturing them all.
