Noella and Okey, Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island Lagos – Preview

I met Okey and Noella during a consultation in Lagos last year where I was on a wedding photography assignment. I learnt then that Noella had been an avid follower of my work for sometime and had us in mind to cover her wedding when Okey proposed to her. I really love it when couples are proactive in signing up their photographers, i.e. booking them way in advance of their wedding day. It gives us a lot of time to plan towards the wedding and also to get to know the couple a lot better too.

Okey and Noella had the most amazing wedding ever. Every bit of detail was planned out and executed beautifully. On our part, covering the wedding ceremony at the church was pretty straightforward, we were completely unhindered by any other photographers because of the way they controlled that aspect of the ceremony. We were truly the “official photographers” of the event. Special thanks to Timi from “I Do Weddings” who coordinated everything.

Also special thanks to the Alakija Studios team who assisted in getting all the images together. We couldn’t have done this job without their help. Wani, Babz, Jeffrey and Demi

Diana + Adam – Engaged

The last couple of months have seen me in Nigeria, England, the Caribbean and the USA. I’ve probably spent more time in the air than I have been in my own home. Ayodele and I just recently moved to Brooklyn, New York. So our business is now a New York business. Before we left Durham, we had to opportunity of doing an engagement session with a lovely couple who also live in North Carolina. Diana and Ayodele were in the same programme so it was quite easy to relate to this couple.

I am going to miss the lovely scenery that North Carolina has to offer. Hopefully I’ll be back to do more sessions in the future.

“Ife wa gbona” – Lovestruck #2, A shoot in collaboration with The Wedding Company

Earlier in the year we had the opportunity to work with our friends at The Wedding Company. A set of photography studios have been chosen to take part in a project called “Lovestruck”. The main idea behind the project was to “learn, share and create” with some of the amazing vendors in the wedding and event industry. We have come together as a team to collaborate with one goal in mind, “to perform at our best and produce outstanding results”. The project allows for a bit more than usual creative licence in out work.

The idea of this particular shoot was simple. Let’s all show how much these guys love each other. The shoot features Adeola and Wale who are newly weds themselves acting out a theme of a couple of rural villagers. I really enjoyed working with these guys on this project.

Special thanks to Lumi Morgan for his assistance on this shoot.

Genevieve Magazine Cover : Funmi Iyanda

It’s been a very busy and crazy couple of months. I’ve seen myself travel in between the USA, the UK and Nigeria quite a few times on all sorts of assignments. It’s been so difficult updating the blog as a result. There’s so much I want to share but very little time to put it all together in between my assignments. Don’t get me wrong… I am not complaining. It’s always a very good indication of how well your business is doing when you’re services are being sort after abroad.

We were recently given the assignment to shoot the cover for the May edition of Genevieve Magazine in Nigeria. The magazine is celebrating its 10 year anniversary and has decided to present an “Iconic” theme with it’s covers this year. Different personalities have been chosen as “icons” to represent what they have done as women in the Nigerian society. May’s edition has Funmi Iyanda, an award-winning broadcaster, journalist, columnist and blogger. I’ve had the opportunity to work with Funmi in the past and I have been meaning to do a portrait of her for sometime now. When we were asked to shoot the cover, it was a definite no-brainer.

Funmi JefeMay 10, 2013 - 2:37 pm

You did a damn good job! I love love FI, proud of her always!

Seun TallMay 10, 2013 - 9:18 am

FI is all kinds of gorgeous! well done Jide Assumpção-Alakija.
